Volunteering in Health helps people in Teignmouth, Dawlish and Chudleigh to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing. It has around 100 volunteers including befrienders, drivers, fundraisers and administrators, and has invited them all to a Summer Party at Bitton House to thank them.

Kingsteignton-based Kingscare League of Friends is featuring some of its 85 volunteers on its Facebook page this week, showing their different experiences and roles. In the last six months Kingscare has welcomed six new volunteers, and is keen to hear from anyone interested in joining its Community Transport Scheme.

Shaldon Wildlife Trust, which has more than 50 volunteers helping with admissions, horticulture and animal care, is offering free entry to Shaldon Zoo for all volunteers of any organisation - all they need to do is bring a letter from the organisation they volunteer with.

Ashburton Community Fridge will be inviting all its volunteers to a three-course meal, cooked using its own surplus food.

A spokesperson for Teignbridge Community and Voluntary Services said: “Volunteers Week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills.

“The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.

“Many local organisations will invite their volunteers to events, outings, coffee mornings or awards ceremonies - but we are only too aware that there are gaps, and organisations are looking for volunteers right now!

“Currently there is a shortage of treasurers to join trustee boards, drivers, shop volunteers and more.
