A FORMER Royal Marine from Chudleigh is walking the length of the country unaided to help support fellow veterans.

Robin Bishop, 72, has set off from Shetland and will spend the next three months walking and carrying everything he needs in a backpack, to Land’s End.

His epic challenge is raising money for the Royal Marine Veterans charity and he is doing it after suffering a heart attack.

Known as Bish, he and his wife Wendy have lived in Chudleigh for 35 years and previously owned the Bishop Lacy Inn.

Robin, a King's Badge recipient, and Falklands veteran, has never been one to back down from a challenge but at 72, this could be his biggest mission yet.

His daughter-in-law Connie Mackenzie said: ‘This isn’t just an incredible physical challenge.

‘It’s a testament to determination, resilience, and the Royal Marines spirit that has never left him.

‘What makes it even more inspiring is that he is doing this after surviving a heart attack.

‘While many would choose to slow down, he's choosing to push forward.

‘Many people also know Bish from his years as a publican.

‘With Wendy, they became well known for their generosity, organising countless charity events and helping people in their local community.

‘Giving back has always been part of who they are.’

He is walking to raise funds for the RMA-TRMC, helping support serving and former Royal Marines, veterans, and their families.

Robin has already raised more than £1,500.

On his fundraising page, his wife Wendy wrote: ‘Every mile he walks is a reminder of the courage, determination, and selfless service that define the Royal Marines.’
