TEIGNMOUTH'S 'expensive' seafront lights are to be replaced with cheaper-to-run bulbs.

Ian Flood-Page, from Teignbridge Council, told town councillors on Tuesday that the existing lights had 'prohibitively expensive' running and maintenance costs.

In February and March next year they would be replaced by the latest technology LED lamps, and the same traditional fairy light style and colours would be retained. Teignbridge would foot the bill of several thousand pounds.

The cost would be repaid through energy savings within five years.
