CREW members from Newton Abbot Fire Station scrubbed and shammied their way to a record-breaking result on Saturday, raising more than £1,500 for their chosen charity.

Crew manager Jordan Leaman said: ‘It was a really successful day, the busiest car-wash I’ve ever known, I’ve been here 10 years at Newton Abbot and that’s the busiest one I’ve ever done here.

With bucket and sponge in hand, members from the crew ushered in the first vehicles at 9.30am and come the end of the day the crew had washed more than 300 cars and other similar vehicles as well as one German Sheperd dog raising a total of £1,594 in the process.

The money is to be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity; the charity offers specialist, lifelong support for members of the UK fire service and support for their families.

Jordan said: ‘It’s brilliant for us to be able to raise such a large amount to help support the work of The Fire Fighters Charity, they are there to support any physical injuries we may experience on the job as well as to support us with our mental health and rehabilitation.’

A tireless team effort, the crew would have surely burnt out if not for the lunch provided them by Kimmy’s Snack Bar; Riviera Stonemasons then picked up the reins by buying the crew KFC for a late-afternoon feast - ensuring the town’s firefighters could continue to fire on all cylinders.

The charity car-wash was supported by not only the businesses above mentioned but also Autoglym and B&Q; the former supplied wash and wax and the latter supplied the sponges.
