AS the latest set of restrictions were lifted, Ashburton Chamber of Trade launched a project that gives back to the local community that supported traders throughout the pandemic.

Ashburton Community Loyalty Card has been designed to encourage and raise awareness of the importance of shopping, eating and drinking in local independent shops and cafes and reward customers for doing so.

Every time a customer spends £5 or more in a participating business they will receive a stamp. When they have collected 10 stamps and filled their card they can enter it into a prize draw to win prizes from local businesses.

There’s no limit to the number of entries people can make.

More than 30 businesses have already signed up to the scheme which means you’ll be rewarded when you do your weekly shop – everything from fresh fruit, meat, cheese and fish. The local pet shop, clothes shops, book shop, gift shops and antique shops will also be handing out stamps.

You can even be rewarded when you grab a coffee and cake or lunch or an evening meal in one of Ashburton’s cafes, restaurants or pubs.

Lydia Wood, chair of Ashburton Chamber of Trade, says: ‘The past year has been incredibly difficult and we wanted to thank people who have supported small local businesses during the pandemic. Their support has been crucial and we’ve seen a growing appreciation for these businesses who always go the extra mile – offering deliveries, takeaways, virtual services and extended hours to ensure their customer’s needs are met. We also wanted the project to reflect the wonderful community spirit that we’ve seen throughout the pandemic and Ashburton Chamber of Trade members Sandra and Jim from Salty’s Studio have leant their creative eye to the design with a logo that puts the U in Community.’

You can pick up your free loyalty card from any of the participating businesses so come and get involved. More details can be found on the Chamber of Trade website www.ashburtonchamber.org/loyalty
