WALKERS are being warned to be on their guard after an explosive device was found in a field at Shaldon.
What is believed to a live high explosive mortar (right) was uncovered near the golf course at the Ness by metal detectorist Costas Constantino.
'I was checking the area with my machine which located something just below the ground.
'I thought it would be just a piece of scrap – although we always live in hope it might be a more interesting or valuable haul – and dug down a few inches.
