A RISING star of the tap dance world is set to return to his roots later this month when award-winning performer Mackenzie Alexander leads a special workshop in Newton Abbot.

Organised by Tap Fever, the workshop will take place at the Keyberry Hotel on Sunday, June 28, from 2pm to 4.15pm.

Open to dancers of all levels, the session costs £20 and offers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the UK's most accomplished young tap dancers.

For Tap Fever founder Sadie Beer, the event is particularly meaningful.

Based in Newton Abbot, Beer has more than 20 years of experience in the dance industry and was one of Mackenzie’s early teachers at Totnes School of Dance.

‘There is a special connection here’ Sadie said.

‘Mackenzie’s mum, Jo, taught me, and I later had the privilege of teaching Mackenzie.

‘Seeing everything he has achieved makes this workshop even more exciting for us’, Sadie added.

Mackenzie began dancing at the age of three and quickly developed a passion for tap.

He joined Tap Attack at nine years old and went on to represent Team GB from the age of 11.

During his competitive career, he won 11 World Championship gold medals, including three individual world titles – a record achievement for a British dancer.

His impressive career has also seen him win the ‘All England Tap Soloist Award’, perform on the main stage at ‘Move It’ in London and train at Wilkes Academy.

Now a member of The OKR Youth Tap Company in London, Mackenzie regularly teaches and performs.

He has appeared in gala performances at the London Tap Festival in both 2025 and 2026 and has recently been invited to perform in Japan in 2027.
