TOYS are being donated to a Christmas present appeal in Ashburton – and there’s room in the collection for lots more.

Grey Matter computer software company has teamed up with Ashburton Primary School and Ashburton Information Centre to coordinate a collection of toys and gifts for children who might otherwise have nothing under the tree on Christmas Day.

Emma Jenkins, office manager at Grey Matter, said: ‘Everything we’re collecting is part of the Salvation Army Appeal and goes out through social services to children who would be getting very little or nothing at Christmas.

‘The appeal really pulls at the heart strings. It’s the first year we’ve done this and the response has been lovely.

‘It was originally the idea of Rebecca from our sales team and we’ve taken it on as a company – putting posters around town and all getting involved.’

The gifts being collected are new items for children, from babies to aged 17, including games, books, soft toys, dolls, cars, stationary, art and craft items, make up, hair accessories, small electronics, powerbanks, sports equipment, sweets, hats and gloves. Donations of money can also be made for organisers to buy gifts.

Grey Matter will be accepting donations at their office in Prigg Meadow until December 6; Ashburton Primary School until December 2; and Ashburton Information Center until December 6.
