A SCHOOLGIRL who was upset when a school announced it might have to chop down a 200 year-old oak has helped the headmaster plant a new specimen.

Anastasia Weston, of Grange Drive, protested when neighbouring Trinity School applied for permission to fell the mighty tree as it was becoming dangerous.

Trinity head Tim Water, who is also a trained forest ecologist, talked to Anastasia about her concerns, and explained that after a full survey it was decided that a thorough pruning would suffice instead.

And he invited Anastasia along to plant a new traditional English oak alongside the old oak, and asked her to keep an eye on both specimens from her bedroom window.
