IT was a glorious day for the Court Leet and Court Baron to Hold its Annual Beating of the Bounds for the Manorial Borough of Newton Abbot.

The event was organised by the Hayward, Colin Davison.

The ‘Beat’ started at Bearne’s School lead by our Portreeve, Carol Bunday, to the first Beat at the tree planted by the late Henry Cole (given the Freedom of the Town) in Devon Square.

Our Portreeve Carol Bunday has another hat to wear, that of being the Mayor of Newton Abbot with her consort Mike Hocking.

The Beat continued around the borough to the half way point, where well earned refreshments at Wolborough Church were provided by Rosemary Christophers and Helen Nelder.

It was a spread fit for a Queen and was very refreshing with cool drinks for the walkers, was greatly received by all.

They continued the BeatThrough the woods to the Cattle Market to Hero’s Bridge finishing back at Bearne’s School for the last Beat which was given by Roger Keys Mace Bearer.

All had an enjoyable time
