A 22-year-old has admitted breaking a man’s jaw after assaulting him twice on the same night in Newton Abbot.

Sam Trendell attacked victim Nathan Meek at his home in the town and then followed him to the Cattle Market car park where he punched him in the jaw.

Sam Trendell, of Windsor Avenue, Newton Abbot, has now pleaded guilty two offences of assault causing grievous bodily harm. One offence was carried out with an intention to cause gbh, the other was not.

Both assaults happened in the early hours of August 6, 2017, with the second taking place near the car park at Sherborne Road at around 2.45 am.

Judge David Evans remanded Trendell in custody at Exeter Crown Court and told him:"You need to be sentenced for these two offences. You must understand you face a long prison sentence."

He has already asked the probation service to carry out an assessment of whether Trendell should be sentenced as a dangerous offender

Trendell had previously pleaded guilty to the more serious assault, in which Mr Meek suffered the broken jaw.

He had denied the lesser assault at his home at an earlier hearing but has now changed his plea.
