ARSONISTS torched a car in Widecombe in the Moor over the weekend.

Firefighters called police to the scene on Widecombe Hill last night (June 2) just after 8.30pm.

A Toyota Yaris was destroyed in the blaze which happened in a car park next to Hollow Tor.

A fire spokesman confirmed that the incident was being treated as one of ‘deliberate ignition.’

A crew from Bovey Tracey arrived at the location to find the vehicle well alight.

The incident commander requested police attendance amid suspicions the car had been set alight.

Firefighters cleared spilled oil and petrol from the area after using a hosereel jet to extinguish the flames which had already done their worst.

A fire spokesman said: ‘The vehicle was 100 per cent destroyed.’
