IT WAS in the early hours that 87-year-old Mary Cornish realised that something was wrong, making the call for an ambulance.

Born and raised in Bristol and now living with her cat in Brunswick Street, Teignmouth, Mary was in a bad way.

‘I was in a shocking state both physically and mentally, I was stone cold, there was no warmth to my body.’ Mary added.

The ambulance crew quickly arrived and two paramedics were by Mary’s side but no sooner had they arrived had a stand-off emerged as Mary stood firm, favouring to stay at home where she felt more comfortable rather than going to hospital.

Refusing to leave Mary’s side the attending crew members stood firm and, with Mary’s consent, helped her into the ambulance and drove her to hospital.

‘I can’t thank the two paramedics enough, if it weren’t for them, I’d not be here now, I must thank them for dragging this woman to hospital.’
