A LORRY driver has died following an accident this morning (Saturday) at the Drumbridges Roundabout at Heathfield, Newton Abbot.
Police were notified at around 7.30am today, Saturday, June 27, to reports of a collision involving a single lorry which had gone over the edge of the Drumbridges Roundabout at Heathfield.
A police spokesperson said: ‘The male lorry driver of the lorry has been confirmed deceased at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.
‘Localised closures and diversions have been put in place by Highways while recovery is underway. Please avoid area if possible.
‘Police are continuing with their inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via [email protected] quoting log number 139 27/06/20.’
One fire appliance from Bovey Tracey and one from Newton Abbot along with the Heavy Rescue Vehicle from Middlemoor were sent to the Drumbridges Roundabout at Heathfield.
A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘On arrival crews confirmed that the vehicle had left the carriageway and was down an embankment. Crews immediately got to work stabilising the vehicle using a winch to make it safe.
‘One person suffered serious injuries. Other agencies attending were Police, Ambulance, Highways and Western Power.
