A FIRE in a wheelie spread to a home in Woodland Road, Ashburton, yesterday evening (Monday).

Fire engines from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Bovey Tracey were sent to a report of a fire in a garden that had spread to the home at just after 10pm.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘The incoming supply boxes for both electricity and gas were affected by the fire so Wales and West Utilities and Western Power Distribution engineers were requested to attend.

‘Crews extinguished the fire, that had originated in a wheelie bin, using two dry powder extinguishers.

‘The cause of the fire was accidental.’
