A MOTORIST is being sought by police after he failed to tell them he was in collision with an elderly pedestrian who he ferried to a local health centre.

Accident investigators are anxious to track the 4x4 driver whose vehicle collided with the 71-year-old Liverton woman in Bovey Tracey.

The accident happened on the morning of Thursday, March 31, in Fore Street.

It emerged later that the casualty suffered serious leg injuries in the accident at about 10.30am.

A police spokesman said the woman was crossing the road near its junction with Abbey Road, near the Lloyds Pharmacy, when the dark-coloured vehicle collided with her.

The driver went to her aid, telling witnesses he would take her home.

A police spokesman said: ‘The woman was subsequently taken to the local health centre and the driver then left.

‘It was then discovered that the woman had sustained serious leg injuries and she was transferred to Torbay Hospital where she remains.’

He added: ‘We are now trying to locate the driver and are appealing for both witnesses and the motorist himself to come forward.’
