POLICE were called to an address in Teignmouth yesterday (Thursay) after a family member was concerned about an antique military shell that had been used as a doorstop for 30 years.

Police arrived and requested Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) from Plymouth.

The device was deemed to require destruction by EOD and it was therefore transported to The Ness Beach very slowly!

The beach was cleared and secured by police and a controlled explosion was conducted at 7.28pm. EOD allowed police to trigger the explosion.

The device was a MK2 British 12LB Shrapnel round believed to have been brought back from Malta.

This is the second explosive device dealt with by Teignmouth Police and EOD teams in two days. If you see anything concerning please report it to the police so that it can be assessed.
