THE Incident Support Unit from Bovey Tracey was sent to a fire in a tea room in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Two Fire Engines from Exmouth and one from Middlemoor, as well as an Aerial Ladder Platform from Danes Castle, were all sent to a report of a fire in a Tea Room shop in Alexandra Terrace, Exmouth at 3.10am.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘On arrival crews confirmed there were smoke and flames issuing, and request further assistance.

‘Fire Engines from Topsham and Sidmouth, as well as a Command Support Unit from Honiton and Incident Support Unit from Bovey Tracey were also sent.

‘Crews are currently still trying to extinguish the fire.’

In an update at 5.13am the fire service reported: ‘50 per cent of the roof space of the tea room was damaged by fire. The fire has now been extinguished and the incident scaled back to one pumping appliance in attendance. The cause of the fire is being investigated.’
