Conditions for round six of Kennick Flyfishers’ Orvis Top Rod competition were sunny with light winds.

Fish were free rising most of the day as beetles were being blown on to the water, so dry fly tactics were the best method of fishing.

A total of 17 anglers caught 25 fish for a bag weight of 46lbs 8oz.

The winner was John Hern of Exeter with five fish for 9lbs 4.5oz; second Robert Gale of Ashburton with three fish for 5lbs 7oz; third Andy Watson of Bovey Tracey with two fish for 4lbs 15.5oz; fourth Mike Steer of Bovey Tracey with three fish for 4lbs 15oz; fifth Andy Gooding of Liverton with two fish for 3lbs 11.5oz; sixth Paul Wicks of Ashburton with two fish for 3lbs 6oz.

On Sunday night there is a skittles and chips event at the Oakford Club. Then, on Sunday, it is the Peninsula Classic, at Kennick.

The next Orvis Top Rod event is at Clatworthy Bank on June 26.
