On a dark Tuesday evening in 2016, I was taken back to a Sunny Afternoon in the 1960s – and from the first chord to the final beat, myself and a packed Princess Theatre audience were served up a real treat, writes Richard Bray.
Written by Joe Penhall, with plenty of input from the band’s singer-songwriter Ray Davies, the musical tells the tale of The Kinks, one Britain’s most iconic groups of the Swinging Sixties.
Filled with all their classic hits – Waterloo Sunset, You Really Got Me, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, This Time Tomorrow, and Lola – Sunny Afternoon chronicles the rise to fame of The Kinks – from growing up in a dead-end street to living the rock star dream of fame and glory.
