A scheme to improve the main A382 between Newton Abbot and Drumbridges has been agreed by Devon County Council’s cabinet.

It means the county can now draw up a planning application and begin thinking about land acquisition for the estimated £28.5 million project.

Talks area already ongoing with landowners, which include Stover School, Stover Golf Club, minerals company Sibelco and farmers.

A consultation on preliminary designs, which included a series of exhibitions, was held earlier this year, when concerns were expressed about the effect on Stover School and about traffic flow in nearby villages during the scheme’s construction.

It includes widening the route between Trago MIlls roundabout and Whitehills Cross, as well a building a two-lane dual carriageway on the section between Drumbridges and Trago Mills.
