County Cllr James McMurray, of Broadmeadow View, Teignmouth, writes:This is a project which is being worked in two sections. The first section is known as the Connect2 scheme which will run from Kingsteignton to the Passage House. This is likely to be completed this year, but agreement is needed with private landowners in order to make this happen. This is a critical first step. The second phase lies between Teignmouth Station and Shaldon Bridge. However, one of the major obstacles is the section from Shaldon Bridge to Bishopsteignton, as this will involve building the route in the estuary and would have to be done without affecting the lengthy sea wall along which the railway runs. There are also ecology, flooding, navigation and land ownership issues that need to be overcome, and these may not be easy to resolve. There was a meeting before Christmas with the interested parties. At the December meeting of the town council I stated that I would be asking for a further report to come forward as a matter of urgency. Having discussed the matter at length with Cllr Stuart Hughes, the cabinet member for highways and transport, I can assure people that the county council's officers will continue to work on this scheme and attempt to overcome the difficulties that are faced. Both I and my colleague Cllr Chris Clarance fully support the scheme.
