A MAN is being sought by police after attacking a woman in a Newton Abbot park.

Police say the offender struck at Forde Park near the toilets next to the tennis courts.

The attacker, who also tried to snatch the woman’s bag, ran off when a couple came to the woman’s aid.

The incident happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on July 8, a Friday.

Details of the incident have only just been released by police.

A police spokesman said officers were keen to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at the location.

They also want to hear from the couple who came to the woman’s rescue.

They should ring 101, quoting log 282 of July 8.
