Wetherspoons evacuated as fire reported in vent in gents’ toilets

Wetherspoons pub in Newton Abbot was evacuated this evening, Wednesday, after reports of a fire in a vent in the upstairs gents’ toilets.

A spokesperson for fire control said: ‘We took a call that there was a fire in the vent in the upstairs gents’ toilets so the building was evacuated.

‘We sent four fire engines and an aerial appliance

‘When we got there, there was just the smell of burning so we are investigating with on-site staff.

Shortly before 8pm the spokesperson said: ‘We are waiting for a further update.’
