HIGHWAYS teams from Devon County Council are out in force on the county’s roads today responding to flooding problems caused by Storm Angus. Surface water and flooding has been reported on a number of roads after heavy rainfall and further intense showers are expected throughout the night.

Fallen trees and debris are being cleared from roads and county council officials are warning of more problems across Devon, especially on minor roads.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, the council’s cabinet member for highway management and flood prevention, said: ‘Our teams are working around the county in difficult conditions.

‘The heavy rain is causing disruptions and road users are advised to take extra care, stick to main roads where possible, not to drive through floodwater and not to drive through road closures.’

In Teignbridge flooding has been reported on the B3344 from Chudleigh to Chudleigh Knighton, outside the entrance to Finlake Holiday Park.

The Environment Agency also has flood warnings in place on a number of rivers across the county and the Met Office has issued a yellow warning that southwesterly winds are forecast to increase overnight into tomorrow morning, with gusts of 50-60mph.
