THE weather threw everything at Shaldon Regatta – torrential rain, gales and big waves – but it did not stop hundreds of competitors and spectators having fun on the beach and water for ten days.

When it was all over on Monday, newly elected president John Lockyer made a short speech thanking all those who organised the event.

Chairman Mark Pile said all the many events were enjoyed in a sporting manner, and he was pleased to see an increase in the number of youngsters taking part, especially in the rowing races.

He thanked Newton Abbot MP Anne-Marie Morris for giving out the trophies, and also praised the visitors who came down year-on-year. Without them the regatta would not be the same, he said.
