PEOPLE are being warned not to light fires in a forest in Devon as the weather becomes milder.

Forestry England is urging visitors to Haldon Forest Park not to start campfires or light barbecues.

The organisation said: ‘Wildfires are not only dangerous for our visitors, staff and emergency services but they are also hugely destructive and can be devastating’.

‘If you are found with a fire or BBQ on our site it will be extinguished.

‘If you spot a forest fire please call 999 and ask for the fire service.

‘Notify our ranger team if you can (between 9am and 5pm).

‘Outside of these hours the fire service will still gain access’.

Haldon Forest, near Exeter, covers 3,500 acres and includes cycle tracks, walking trails and a high wire adventure course.
