A BIZARRE plea by a lovesick young woman to spend her wedding night in prison with the man she loved made headlines in 1987.

It read: Bubbly blonde Kim Honeywill a barmaid from Teignmouth is marrying prisoner Peter Goodyear and has written to the prison authorities asking for permission to spend their first night together in the cells.

‘But Exeter prison has turned down the request and Kim, 21, knows she may have to wait years for her honeymoon night.

In a bizarre wedding ceremony at Exeter Register Office she will be wearing a £400 wedding dress and arriving in a white limousine.

Her bridegroom will arrive in a prison van and guarded by prison officers throughout the ceremony.

Kim’s parents, who used to run the Anchor pub in the resort, are supporting her and laying on a full £2,000 wedding.

Afterwards Kim and about 20 guests will drive off in style to a luxury chmpagne reception at an Exeter restaurant.

But her new husband will celebrate with ‘porridge’ – a standard prison lunch and a cup of tea.

It is a strange love story and friends have told her she is stupid.

She met Peter, who is from London, in the summer while he was on the run for breaking his parole. They fell in love, but after a tiff he went off.

Kim spent hundreds of pounds touring the country looking for him and her ‘come back all is forgiven’ appeals were even broadcast on Radio 1.

She found a job in a Brighton pub they had once visited, on the off chance he might walk in – and he did!

‘We both burst into tears and agreed there and then to get married. But he was arrested soon after and has been in prison ever since,’she said.

Peter, 29, is completing one prison term and is due to appear before the Crown Court for sentence on other offences.

‘He could be in for up to five years, but I do not care if it is 10 –I will wait for him. I am just crazy for him and I know he will go straight this time when he comes out.’

The honeymoon could have to be postponed for some time, and the newly weds face years of only meeting once a month on prison visiting days.
