GOING trick or treating in Teignbridge? Make sure your children stay safe in their fancy dress with these HALLOWEEN safety tips from Trading Standards:
Help children practise ‘Stop’, hands over their face, ‘drop and roll’ to put out flames.
Avoid billowing, layered or trailing fabric. Choose well-fitting costumes in thicker material.
Look for flame-resistant labels on costumes which means they are less likely to ignite and should extinguish more quickly.
Lanterns, candles and tea lights in pumpkins, and sparklers, are all lethal to children. Try torches or glow sticks instead.
Outerwear, costumes and props can all be trimmed with visible reflective tape so children can be seen.
Warning labels on costumes and props are important so read before you buy.
Ensure you buy costumes from reputable sources and which are made to a high standard.
Eye openings in masks should be large enough for your child to see clearly and headwear should be loose enough to remove quickly.
