A GROUP of travellers who moved onto a park in Bovey Tracey had been ordered to move out by 9am today.
But at 11am, the group of about a dozen caravans and other vehicles were still on site at Mill Marsh Park.
Enforcement officers acting on behalf of Bovey Tracey Town Council had instructed the unauthorised campers in Mill Marsh Park to vacate the site by 9am today.
They were also been advised not to return.
A spokesman for Bovey Tracey Town Council said: ‘The council’s swift action, following liaison with police and local partners, aims to restore full access to the park with minimal delay.
‘The costs incurred, including repair of site access and clean-up, will be met from council reserves, and future security measures are under review.’
Town Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke said: ‘I’m pleased we’ve acted promptly to address the matter and I know residents will welcome the return of their much-loved park.
‘We now look ahead to welcoming the Britain in Bloom judges on 16 July, and I hope our upcoming community litter-pick in Mill Marsh Park on 15 July at 6.30pm — with support from the WI — will be well attended.
‘Across Bovey, let’s show our pride by tidying our streets and open spaces.
‘Perhaps this event reminds us just how much we value our town.’
