UNWELCOME travellers, in a convoy of at least 20 caravans, have set up base in a popular Newton Abbot park.
The ‘intimidating’ guests started spilling out onto the playing fields at Bakers Park on Thursday morning.
One worried dog walker told the Mid-Devon Advertiser that the travellers cut their way through a chain and gate to get onto the fields.
She said: ‘It is very intimidating for dog walkers using the park.
‘A lot of people got to the park yesterday and turned around when they saw the travellers.’
The disgruntled woman revealed the uninvited group nearly ran her dog over because they were driving their cars around the beauty spot.
A spokesman for Teignbridge Council, which owns the park, said: ‘We can confirm that travellers have arrived at Bakers Park in Newton Abbot.
‘The council is following procedure and will take any necessary legal action to have the travellers moved on should it be required.
‘Teignbridge officers will be visiting the site this morning to give verbal notice for them to leave, which is the first stage of the legal process.’
