TRAFFIC through Starcross has been described as ‘chaos’ this morning.

The A379 is closed all day today for urgent building works and scaffolding.

Diversions are in place but surrounding roads have been gridlocked.

County councillor Alan Connett confirmed the highways officers had said the closure at the Driftwood Inn had to be closed yesterday and today ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

Drivers have described the situation as ‘chaos’.

One said it had been difficult with lorries, vans and cars attempting to pass on bends at Mamhead Road and the back of Starcross.
