ONE of Teignmouth's bravest war heroes, who won a VC and an MC, is to be honoured in his home town.

To mark next year's anniversary of the start of the first world war, the government has commissioned engraved paving stones to commemorate all VC holders.

Among them is the Rt Hon Brigadier John Smythe, and his stone will be placed in front of the war memorial on the seafront.
