THE Newton Abbot branch of Lloyds Bank has escaped the latest round of closures as the company moves to close nearly 50 branches.

The Courtenay Street branch was not among the 49 set to close under Lloyds Banking Group’s announcement this week.

But some other Devon town’s were not so lucky.

Branches in Totnes and Ivybridge will close on January 8 and January 14 respectively, followed by Okehampton on March 25.

It is the latest swathe of branches to be axed as more and more people gravitate towards online banking.

Of the 49 closures, 26 are Lloyds branches, ten Halifax and the remainder are Bank of Scotland branches.
