A blind and deaf Teignmouth adventurer and author, Tony Giles, is on his travels again – this time to Antarctica.

He has already visited 50 countries on his own, and Antarctica is the only continent in which he has not set foot on.

'The challenge of getting there is a big part of the adventure, and I hope to have a real experience of the place by taking in the smells of seals, penguins and the surrounding environment,' he said.

His journey started with a flight to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, where he is making his way down to Ushuaia, the most southerly town in the world.

From there he will sail to Antarctica, and then backpack through Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru, where he aims to visit Inca sites such as Machu Picchu.

Tony is often in demand for interviews with the national and international media, and he recently featured on Radio 4's In Touch, where he discussed his past globe-trotting experiences with another blind traveller, and explained his love of the independence and flexibility of lone backpacking.

He recently met Princess Anne at a tea event organised by the deaf-blind charity, Sense, of which she is a patron.

She chatted to him about his book, Seeing The World My Way, which is published by SilverWood Originals, before wishing him luck on his latest trip.
