THUNDERSTORMS and heavy winds are headed our way as the Met Office issued three Yellow Warnings about the weather today.
It looks like the hot weather is over as we can expect strong and gusty winds will develop through the afternoon and evening and may lead to some disruption, particularly for holidaymakers.
Issuing a warning up until midnight tonight, Friday, a Met Office spokesperson warned: ‘Strong, gusty east to northeasterly winds will develop through the afternoon and evening ahead of an area of thunderstorms.
‘Some places may see gusts of 45 to 55 mph, especially along exposed coasts and near and over hills. This may lead to tricky driving conditions, for example for vehicles towing caravans, and cause some disruption, for example at camp sites.’
The second warning of thunderstorms and heavy rains covers from 8pm tonight until 10pm tomorrow
The spokesperson added: ‘Heavy rain and thunderstorms will move into southern areas during Friday night. This is likely to bring frequent lightning, possible large hail and gusty winds as well as torrential rainfall for some.
‘Further slow-moving thunderstorms will develop by Saturday afternoon across southern counties of England, easing only slowly through the evening. Not all places affected but where they occur, a renewed threat of torrential rainfall and flooding, some locations seeing 30 to 50 mm within an hour or two. Lightning, large hail and locally gusty winds could pose additional hazards.’
A third yellow warning, of thunderstorms, was issued covering from 9am on Sunday to midnight.
