A SHY summer sun did nothing to stop Newtonians amassing for the town’s send off celebrations honouring Her Majesty.

On Sunday, June 5, hundreds and hundreds of people gathered for an afternoon of family friendly fun and festivities at Courtenay Park.

Party in the Park began at noon and featured all manner of activities, including a Royal-themed concert with Spectrum Music, magic bubbles, a magician, face painting, balloon modelling, giveaways, a Jubilee selfie frame and more.

In the wake of the refreshments stall having to pull out, revellers were encouraged to bring their own food and drink, hunker down for a picnic and enjoy the afternoon, which was organised by Newton Abbot Town Council.

Newton Abbot mayor, Cllr Carol Bunday, said: ‘The Party in the Park was terrific and everything was provided by Newton Abbot Town Council so families could enjoy a day out without having to worry about the cost.

‘The only sadness was the last minute loss of our refreshments stall as the owner had been taken ill and we had no chance to arrange a replacement.

‘People still had a lovely time though and my heartfelt thanks go to everyone who made our Platinum Jubilee celebrations the great success they certainly were.

‘This was truly a once in a lifetime event and will stay in our memories for ever.’
