TEIGNBRIDGE District Council’s Teignbridge 100 initiative is up for a national award.
Teignbridge 100 is shortlisted in the finals of the Best Social Housing Initiative of the MJ Achievement Awards.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London hosted by BBC TV presenter Huw Edwards.
In their entry submission the council said: ‘Teignbridge District Council became a non-stock holding Authority 20 years ago following an LSVT to Teign Housing.
‘In July 2021 the council approved intervening in the market by delivering its own housing stock, the premise of this initiative is delivering “genuinely affordable homes to buy or to rent for local people”.
‘As a council we have declared a climate emergency and we are committed to ‘do what is within our powers to be a carbon neutral district and to lead by example’.
‘The project known as the Teignbridge 100 due to its aims of firstly delivering 100 Council owned or enabled homes and having a constant pipeline of 100 homes.
‘New delivery has a prerequisite of avoiding gas boilers, maximising solar gain, being based on a fabric first approach of quality insulation and with electric car charging as standard.
‘Delivery where possible to all be on brownfield land and at social rent! So far, we have delivered two schemes.
‘The houses and ground floor flats are wheelchair accessible.
‘All are carbon neutral with EPC ratings of A placing them in the top 4% of affordable housing delivery We have a pipeline exceeding 100 with 21 under our belt so far.’
The organisers say: ‘Congratulations to all of our finalists and thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate their council, team, project or colleague! The judges had some very difficult decisions to make with a record breaking number of entries this year, and that is testament to the hard work being done in Local Government.
‘We look forward to seeing everyone at the awards ceremony on Friday, June 23, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.’
