TEIGN Housing tenants picked up some DIY skills and samples at an events day with one of the housing association’s suppliers.

They were trained to fix things to different types of walls and attach curtain rails and shelves.

Andrea Colson, of Templer Home Build who maintains Teign Housing properties, said: ‘Each of the suppliers set up examples of their ranges and undertook demonstrations.

‘Tenants then had the opportunity to drill and use different rawl plugs and fixings to accommodate a variety of wall types from plaster board to brick.

‘They were shown a range of adhesives, silicone and tile grout and were able to discuss how best to use and maintain it, as well as gaining advice on wall preparation and colour choices when painting.

‘Feedback from tenants was really positive and one commented: “having the correct way to use things and the right fixing for different jobs explained was invaluable.’

Each tenant was given a bag of samples from the suppliers to take home including drill bits, a box of fixings and a paint tin opener to use in their own homes.
