A FITTING sing-along to Bring Me Sunshine and Sunny Afternoon celebrated the success of a community solar energy scheme at its provider’s first annual meeting.

The Teign Energy Communities (TECs) group is behind the successful installation of community solar panels installed at Teign School. The group raises money for green energy projects through a community share scheme.

Their first annual meeting was held at Buckland and Milber Community Centre.

Helen Chessum, of the group, said: ‘This special AGM was celebrated in style with a performance by the More Tones from Moretonhampstead, whose leader is also a TECs member.

‘Later, the TECs Songstresses led members in old favourites like Sunny Afternoon and Bring Me Sunshine. The lyrics were given a makeover to reflect the renewable energy generation. It was great fun!’

Attendees heard about the success and financial good health of the TECs group which was set up in 2015. They also heard how the first solar project at Teign School is reaping the benefit of the sun’s rays.

Helen added: ‘A substantial increase in the TECs’ community fund is the result of better than expected income in the first year of trading. Members and stakeholders will be asked to nominate groups and organisations to bid for the funds.

‘TECs is on a firm footing and still has a number of irons in the fire for 2017, despite a less favourable backdrop for renewable energy in the last year.

‘Solar panels and LED-lighting projects are our current focus. We’re working with organisations and businesses in Teignbridge to help them realise their energy-saving plans.

‘Our dream is that everyone in Teignbridge becomes a member and knows who we are.’
