All teachers in the department dressed up as a literary character and students were invited to use their creative writing skills as part of the lesson programme for the day.
The theme of the day was ‘Sharing a Million stories’.Staff dressed up as a host of different characters from a huge range of literary genres, including Professor Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter series, Lyra Belacqua from the His Dark Materials trilogy and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series.
Each teacher recorded a short clip explaining their favourite literary character and why they were chosen; students then created a multiverse-style story in response.
Engagement and celebration of World Book Day has become a tradition in the college. Costumes in the past have included characters from Cluedo and fictitious creations such as Liberation Librarian, Superlative Girl and Punk-Tuation.
English teacher Danielle Titchard said: ‘World Book Day is so important. It gives us another opportunity share our love of reading and to (hopefully) inspire our student to get into reading.’ORDER YOUR DIGITAL EDITION HERE
