THE number of working days lost by teachers in Devon due to mental health has been revealed by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
Submitted to Devon County Council, the FOI request shows that a total of 2,475 days were lost in the 2024/25 academic year, with 105 teachers taking time off due to mental health.
The figure is the lowest in the past five years, with the 2022/23 academic year seeing the most days lost at 3,284, with 127 teachers on leave due to ill health.
It should be noted that, the above figures are those of teachers working at schools run by Devon County Council.
The 2025 Teacher Wellbeing Index found that 78 per cent of all education staff reported being stressed, with 36 per cent reporting experiencing burn-out.
