Sean Brogan, of Coombe Vale Road, Teignmouth, writes:
At last, the Tories, have given the whip back to Anne Marie Morris. The more astute readers will notice that this was just before the vote on the Ammendment 9 on the Brexit Withdrawal Bill which the Government lost.
Needless to say that she could hardly been expected to vote against the Government.
It is no wonder then that in a recent Ipsos MORI poll placed politicians at the bottom of the list of people we trust in public life – with a miserable 17 per cent rating (Ipsos MORI ‘Veracity index 2017 - all professions overview’). Nurses came top with 94 per cent rating! So politicians have a long way to go.
Should we believe Damien Green when he says he didn’t download pornography on a Government computer? Perhaps we should believe that the coffin on an NHS demonstration in Totnes was a threat to her health or life as claimed by Sarah Wollaston, MP for Totnes. Someone should enlighten her that the vast majority of NHS demos have coffins in their midst to signify the death of the NHS!
Then we have the Mid-Devon MP, Mel Stride, who is in the Treasury Office, pontificating about fairness in tax when the rich, including the Monarchy, are salting away ‘their’ wealth in tax havens like Bermuda.
To cap it all the ‘low tax’ of this regime for ‘hard working people’ propose to allow local councils to raise tax by six per cent (a very regressive tax).
All I can say is – ‘Happy New Year’ and keep believing in pixies at the bottom of your garden playing and mixing with leprechauns. After all, this Government is being propped up by the DUP – the latter believing that dinosaurs were on Noah’s Ark!
