TWO former members of popular band Dire Straits are among the musicians recreating their string of hits from over the last 35 years.

Sultans of Swing, Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing, Walk of Life, Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet are among the catalogue of some of the best-selling songs produced by the group.

Now saxophonist Chris White and drummer Chris Whitten are taking to the stage with fellow musicians at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, with The Dire Straits Experience.

Sultans of Swing, their first big hit, was released 35 years ago and when Dire Straits disbanded more than 20 years ago they left a catalogue of some of the best rock songs and live performances of any band.

Their reputation has grown over time with record sales of more than 120 million albums, while younger fans are now joining the band’s worldwide following.

After a two-decade break, with increasing demand to hear the band play live again, members joined to form The Straits for a charity show at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011.

With former front man Mark Knopfler enjoying a successful solo career, Terence Reis took his place.

And by the time The Straits ended three years later, the band had played more than 150 shows in 25 countries around the world.

Now The Dire Straits Experience continues the music.

The show is at the Princess Theatre on Friday, February 26.
