UPDATE: One of the roads into Dawlish has been re-opened but drivers are being urged to take care on the roads.
Teignbridge District Council has Tweeted: ‘Good news is that the fallen tree (11.45 today) blocking Warren Road has been cleared.
‘Bad news is that alternative route we suggested earlier is now flooded. Take care when out and about.’
Trains have been cancelled, flood warnings issued and many sporting events cancelled after Mid Devon took a battering from Storm Dennis.
Teignbridge Council had Tweeted: ‘A tree has come down at Warren Copse which has closed the road into Dawlish Warren at Warren Road just off Exeter Road. Contractors have been advised and will be removing as soon as possible,’ @TDCLeisure.’
The Environment Agency had issued 39 live warnings for the South West.
Meanwhile the Met office has extended its Yellow Warning for windy weather until 11am on Monday.
A Met Office spokesman said: ‘Storm Dennis will bring some very strong winds and transport disruption during Sunday and into Monday morning.
Some very strong winds are likely in association with Storm Dennis. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely within the warning area for much of the period.’
One dramatic image from reader Tim Solomon was sent in as waves hit the seafront at Dawlish.
Teignbridge District Council has warned that: ‘with some roads flooded and depending on overnight conditions, the aftermath of Storm Dennis may result in disruption to some waste/recycling collections. Should a collection not be made please leave your containers out and we will return to empty them as soon as we can.’
