DOORS to Newton Abbot’s Aldi supermarket are to open in just a few weeks’ time, it has been announced.

Bosses at the German retailer have revealed their Brunel Industrial Estate outlet is poised to open on August 1.

Sally Henley, town development manager, said: ‘We have all been watching with great interest as the site at the entrance to the Brunel Estate has been transformed from one which was derelict and unattractive into a proper construction site.

‘This process has been very swift and it will be fantastic to see Aldi open at the beginning of August.’

She added: ‘This is just one of the pieces of investment which Newton Abbot will be seeing this year, following on from other projects in the town centre last year and it’s a huge boost for the economy.

‘We are constantly hearing in the media that we live in times of uncertainty and so this sort of investment is significant and a sign of the continues prosperity of our town.’
