Roy Phillips, of St Joseph's Court, Carlton Place, Teignmouth, writes:
My statement of facts concerning what has happened and what is happening in Teignmouth seems to have upset Cllr Bray. May I give some factual answers to his published comments in your newspaper last week.
First, my interest in Teignmouth has not been renewed but still remains after having lived here since 1978. What shocked me into writing was reading that Cllr Russell had not been selected as a candidate and, second, what I believe to be factual inaccuracies reported at recent town council meetings and statements by some present councillors.
The success of Teignmouth playpark is a tribute to all these councillors who contributed to it and voted for it, the Lib-Dems, the Conservatives and the Independents. The crossing outside the Co-op was Cllr Weekes' idea, the George Street gardens had been suggested, years ago, by another councillor but Cllr Bray enabled it to happen with a financial contribution from the £25,000 all county councillors received from the sale of Exeter airport.
As for plans for the Carlton, which ones? There have been many over the years and it was the efforts of previous councillors for Teignmouth that stifled Teignbridge's earlier plans for its removal. The proposals for the Fish Quay were the brainchild of the Teign's fishermen. It is they who have brought it forward from when it was first spoken of at a town council meeting some four or five years ago.
As for the skateboard facility on the promenade, that was first proposed by Cllr Bladon some five years ago, then later taken up by Cllr Weekes and then, lately, by Cllrs Bray and Falcao.
All these and other facts can be confirmed by anyone going to Teignmouth Library and reading the relevant council meetings minutes.
As for who will win the county council elections, this is for the residents of Teignmouth to decide, and they are entitled to choice, be it Lib-Dems, Conservative, Labour or Independent.
