THE main road through Starcross will now have to remain closed until Monday October 6, highways officers have confirmed.

The A379 has been shut due to work being carried out on the Driftwood Inn, formerly the Galleon.

Work has had to be extended so Devon County Council highways say the diversion route will remain in place for longer than expected.

The authority says HGVs and towing vehicles should use the A380.

A diversion route is in place for light vehicles but delays are to be expected in the area.

County councillor Alan Connett said the work had to be extended as removing the render has revealed the cob wall needs urgent attention.

More time is required as this is specialist work.
