A HEAT health alert due to end tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1, has been extended to cover Wednesday, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has announced.

The amber alert had been due to end at 6pm on Tuesday, but UKHSA has extended it until 9am on Wednesday, July 2.

It comes as temperatures across the UK soar, with some areas experiencing temperatures in excess of 30C.

Six other regions of the UK are also included in the alert.

The UKHSA is warning that the hot weather will likely put additional pressure on health and social care services, chiefly greater demand throughout the duration of the alert.
