TEIGNMOUTH'S new mayor has sung the praises of the town and said he wants to build on the uplifting 'Muse effect'.

Cllr Ian Parkes, who is known for hosting entertainment gigs, said the resort was on the up and still benefiting from the feel good factor of the two Muse concerts on the Den last year.

He told the annual town council meeting on Tuesday that his theme for the year would be 'positiveness', and quoted the thousands of glowing comments made over the years about Teignmouth from the blind and partially sighted guests who stayed at the Cliffden Hotel, where he works.
